Dr Awenat qualified in 2004 from The University of Manchester and has 13 years (pre and post doctoral) experience working in the NHS prior to moving to the independent sector in 2011.
Dr Awenat joined The Priory Cheadle Royal Hospital as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in January 2011 where she stayed until September 2019 as the Head of Psychology (Adult and Young People's Services) leading a large team of psychological specialists across one of the organisation's biggest inpatient hospitals. During this time, Dr Awenat provided clinical and managerial supervision to team members working across the entire hospital whilst providing clinical input herself into the secure Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU's).
Dr Awenat’s primary therapeutic modality is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a third-generation form of mindfulness-based CBT. Dr Awenat provides training and supervision in ACT to clinical teams nationally and to The University of Manchester Clinical Psychology Doctorate.
Dr Awenat has also trained in CBT, Compassionate Mind Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Schema Focussed Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and is intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Whilst Dr Awenat integrates aspects of these approaches into her practice, if you are specifically looking to receive these therapies, you are advised to seek a clinician who uses them as their predominant model.

Dr Awenat offers in-person appointments at The Wilmslow Hospital, Cheshire and remotely.
DR AWENAT HAS WORKED IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS INCLUDING:

· Primary and secondary care mental health services (including outpatient and inpatient).
· Forensic settings (Lead psychologist for Forest Bank HMP/YOI and expert witness reports provided for the courts in attendance to multiple prisons).
· Physical health (Psychology lead for medical weight management and Chronic Fatigue Services in addition to general medical and on-call at Salford Royal Foundation Trust).
· Corporate settings (Provision of psychological assessment and intervention to companies enabling them to thrive inter-personally and professionally using psychological resilience skills).
· Teaching and Training (Provision of teaching to 2nd and 3rd Year Doctoral trainees and undergraduates at The University of Manchester, Clinicians and non-clinicians). Provision of clinical placements to doctoral trainees.
